At present, z.systems is a rapidly scaling startup dedicated to enhancing the competitiveness of Morocco’s small, independent retailers — locally known as “hanouts.”
The fund has already deployed $10 million to five startups operating across eight African countries, collectively serving over 60 million people.
In an interview with Al Sharq Bloomberg Channel, Al-Abd highlighted the aim of the program’s expansion which was to reinforce Egypt’s growing startup ecosystem while extending its reach to growing African and Arab markets.
The idea of a partnership with LEO satellite providers comes off the back of the recent MTN 5.5G trials, which is the first of its kind in Africa.
“We look forward to building on our licence stack in South Africa and exploring how that will enable further opportunities, not only in South Africa and the SADC region, but across the continent,” the company said.

Chad’s Communications Minister, Boukar Michel, emphasised the importance of this partnership, stating, “A large part of our territory is not covered by fibre optics, and I believe that Starlink will help us bridge this gap.”
